For a person to understand their computer better and see what it is capable of, it is essential to know the system configurations. Whether you want to play games or edit movies, first you need to know your computer configuration and then decide which game or software will work on your current system.

When you want to install a software or a game, it is essential to know whether your system can take the load of the software or not. Games are heavy files and there are specific “gaming laptops/computer systems” out there in the market for this purpose. These laptops and computers have configurations that match to support the heavy files and software.

If you force download a heavy application into your system, then that will affect your computer’s performance and you will see a great decline in its performance.

There are two ways from which you can check your system configuration

  1. Use the setting tab to learn the basic information

Go to Start and type “settings” directly or you can use the shortcut Windows + I and open the settings in windows 8 or 10.

Click on the “system” icon on your screen. Once the system is open, click on the “about” option on the bottom-left of the screen.

Here you will see that the screen has two sections. There is a “Device Specification” part that displays the basic information regarding your processor, hardware, product ID, RAM, and the type of system you are using (32- bit or 64- bit).

On the other side, there is the “Windows Specification” part where you see the version, edition, and build of the windows you are using.

  1. The information app in the system for hardware and software details

The system information app has been present in Windows for a long time, even before Windows XP. To understand the system configurations in detail you can use this method.

To open, click Windows + R and type “msinfo32” in the box which will appear and then click enter.

There will be more detailed information available on the “System Summary” app as compared to what you saw on the setting app. The details regarding the manufacturer of your laptop or computer and the hardware details will be available such as the motherboard model, RAM details, BIOS version, and many more.

After learning about the services, there is an expansion on the left side where you are exposed to a different level of detail.

Information about the “Hardware resources” node is very abstruse. When you open the “Display” component, information on your graphics card’s model and making is presented along with the driver version and the updated resolution.

One advantage which you get in a system information app is that you can learn the detailed information as well as turn that into a text file like a system report. This way you can transfer your systems information to anyone or have a saved copy which will prove helpful later.

First, you need to select all the information that you want to get exported. You can click on “file” and “export” to directly export the detailed report to the location you prefer and click on “save” or click on “system summary” node and get the detailed information available in the system information application itself.

Of course, there are many third-party applications that will also provide you information. There are apps that are specifically made to give you detailed info about different parts of your computer like monitoring your CPU and GPU temperatures, motherboard, etc.
